When you google “Niseko” the first results to pop up are ski resort and many images of snow in the area. It is without a doubt a wonderful place for a winter vacation but what if I told you that there’s lots to do in the summer here as well? A lot of people make the simple mistake that Niseko is just a destination for a winter vacations. It really is unfortunate because there is a wide array of things to do in the summer as well.
Explore Niseko through cycling
Take in the sights and explore at your own pace with mountain biking and road cycling. Exploring on two wheels isn’t exactly something you can do while in the winter. Without the snow, Niseko transforms into a lush, green environment with stunning views all around . If you’re the type who likes a bit of speed there’s also multiple pump tracks and mountain biking courses near Niseko for those interested.
Experience adventure at NAC Adventure Park
For those wanting to get more up close and personal with their inner explorer, NAC Adventure Park is available and offers a multitude of activities for you to enjoy. If you’re the type to want to explore on foot, tree trekking allows you to get a closer look on the unique flora and fauna, reach scenic tops of mountains, reflective mountain lakes and even observe the wildlife of forest swamps.
Whether you’re a child or adult, River SUP (River Stand Up Paddleboard) is an activity that all ages can enjoy. NAC is very accommodating and has inflatable SUPs which are user friendly but also come in different sizes to suit your preference. The River SUP itself takes place down a calm and scenic route of the Shiribetsu river. Hit up the golf course
Golf enthusiasts or those looking to get into golf are guaranteed to have a great time in Niseko with nine varied courses near by. With all courses difficulties ranging from beginner friendly to professional, it’s easy to find a course that suits your play level and just get straight into it. The Niseko Village Golf Course in particular has been voted as Japan’s best in 2018 and 2016. These courses are already well established and will most likely already have golf enthusiasts looking at reservations so act quick!
Dine like a king with Niseko’s varied and unique cuisine
For those craving high quality fine dining, the iconic Michelin-starred Kamimura offers exceptional fusion of French-Japanese food unlike any other. Alongside the exquisite food, it’s intimate and elegant atmosphere paired with the beautiful interior is guaranteed to offer a food experience unlike any other.
If you’re looking for a simpler and more traditional meal, Kumo Restaurant offers an excellent selection of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lunch and dinner menus are wonderful with food ranging from Rusutsu Pork Rice Bowl with Black Pepper Miso to Hokkaido Beef Fillet Steak (With your choice of sauce of course), I personally recommend the breakfast menu as it offers fresh fruit, seasonal vegetables, ikura (salmon roe), Japanese styled omelettes and even Hokkaido style fried chicken. With a breakfast menu like that it’d be a shame to miss out on it.
Japanese tea ceremonies are a must. Somoza is an art gallery and restaurant. Set in the popular Alpine resort area of Niseko, it combines all elements that make Japan a memorable experience; craftsmanship, history, impeccable scenery and incredible ambience. In the midst of all that, you get to experience a traditional tea ceremony. With such a variety in Niseko, you’re bound to leave with a taste of Niseko, Hokkaido.
